Shreds of decanted memories
Filter through tenebrous screens,
Distorted shadows of the past
Haunt eerily in his mind’s corridors. A sly clown mimics a beloved’s call
Chasing his glance past his kin beside,
Catcalls of impish rascals torment
A peaceful repose tiresomely gained.

Wanton gestures strike like workers
While external appearance reveals naught,
Belief and disbelief mock faces at each other
At once within and outside.

The cloak of flesh and bones lies inert
After a soliloquy of high drama
With involuntary movements
To the tune of a sadistic chimera

Is this the Janus that gives and takes at once?
The Dracula in the mendicant’s garb?
Solace and cynicism dissolves
Into one potion called life.

Shreds of memories, distorted images,
Spooky cries and wild glances,
A Parkinsonian with dementia – my dad,
A man turned beast trapped in life!
